Fiesta de la Vaquilla festival in Colmenar Viejo
In Colmenar Viejo (approx. 25 km south of Madrid) there is a colorful folk festival every year in memory of the cattle drive. Animals are decorated with colorful ribbons and led through the streets of Colmenar. Many dances and parades accompany the hustle and bustle.

carnival
The Carnival in Madrid lags behind that in Cadiz, but the Madrid Carnival is always an event. There are parades, costume competitions and numerous parties. The festival ends on Ash Wednesday with the traditional burial of a sardine, which is intended to symbolize the end of high-fat eating during the long winter months.

Bullfights

Strawberry train
From the end of April to October , the Tren de la Fresa, pulled by one of the historic steam locomotives, can be used from Madrid to Aranjuez and back every weekend. Train attendants in traditional costumes serve – of course – strawberries from Aranjuez. The railway museum starts in Madrid. The ticket also includes a bus transfer to historic sites in Aranjuez, a guided tour of the Royal Palace, and entry to the Falus Museum.

City marathon
