Oriente Atiram Hotel
The 3-star hotel is centrally located on the busy main street La Rambla and is one of the great old hotels in Barcelona. The 147-room hotel, built in 1842 on the site of a Franciscan monastery, was once frequented by many celebrities, including Maria Callas, Arturo Toscanini and Errol Flynn. Although renovations may seem a little unimaginative, the large dining room and ballroom with beautiful arches, which is now a lounge, clearly testify to the glory of days gone by. This modernist hotel is located on a narrow street near the Liceu Opera House. The Hotel Peninsular is one of the oldest hotels in the city and was built on the site of a former nunnery. The rooms are simple and clean, but sometimes a little narrow and noisy. Not all have their own bathroom. The peninsular is full of architecturally interesting details, such as the Moorish arches in the dining room. The highlight is the courtyard balcony decorated with hanging plants and wicker furniture. The almost meditative atmosphere is reminiscent of the Far East. It is advisable to book about three months in advance. If you value a room with a window, you should make sure when booking that the booked room has a window.

A friendly hotel with a personal touch is the 3-star Hotel Catalunya Plaza in the city center. There are excellent connections to the airport and all major traffic arteries. This wonderful little 2-star hotel with a lot of character and originality is extremely popular with budget-conscious travelers. The El Jardí is located in the busy old town and has a view of the shaded, café-lined Plaça Sant Josep Oriol and the classic Gothic architecture of the Santa Maria del Pi church. It is unbeatable in terms of price and location, and all rooms have a private bathroom.
