COMMUNICATION

Phone

According to aristmarketing, the country code is 00352. The number of public telephones continues to decline while cell phone users increase. Public telephones are used with calling cards and occasionally with credit cards. Phone cards can be purchased from kiosks, newsagents or post offices.

Cellphone

GSM 900, GSM 1800 and 3G 2100. Network operators include Tango (Internet: www.tango.lu) and Post Luxembourg (Internet: www.post.lu/de/). International roaming contracts exist.

International roaming can be used within the EU at the Euro tariff. Customers of all European mobile network operators automatically make all calls in and from other EU countries at the euro rate. However, the Eurotariff does not apply to other mobile communications services such as SMS, MMS and data transmission.

Internet

Internet cafes are available nationwide. Internet provider is, among others, Visual Online (Internet: www.vo.lu). Use of the Internet terminals in the Luxembourg City Library is free. Numerous hotels, cafes and the airport offer wireless access to the Internet via Wi-Fi. Mobile surfing on the Internet is also made possible, among other things, by Goodspeed Wi-Fi hotspots (Internet: goodspeed.io/de/index.html).

Post Office

You can write poste restante to all post offices, but you have to apply for a PO box. The post is kept for up to a month. Post offices are open Mon-Fri 8 a.m.-12 p.m. and 1.30 p.m.-5 p.m., smaller post offices often only a few hours a day.

Radio

Since the use of shortwave frequencies changes several times over the course of a year, it is advisable to contact Deutsche Welle customer service directly (Tel: (+49) (0228) 429 32 08. Internet: www.dw-world.de) to request.

NIGHTLIFE

Introduction

Visitors to the capital Luxembourg can choose from a whole range of entertainment options, from classical concerts, theater, opera or ballet performances to nightclubs, cinemas and discos, which are usually open until 3:00 a.m. There is also a wide range of restaurants to suit all tastes. The Rives de Clausen complex, located on the site of a former brewery in the Clausen district, has become increasingly popular among young and more affluent adults in recent years (Internet: www.rivesdeclausen.com). There are over a dozen bars and clubs here that play music until the wee hours of the morning. There are also several theaters in the city, some of which also perform plays in German or English.

The Kulturfabrik in Esch-sur-Alzette, the second largest city in the country, is a lively and highly recommended event location with an attached restaurant / bar complex in a former slaughterhouse (Internet: www.kulturfabrik.lu). Also known is the Rockhal (Internet: www.rockhal.lu), which is the largest and most important venue in the country for rock concerts and where international stars regularly perform.

The L’Inoui village in the otherwise rather sleepy Redange is a luxury and cozy restaurant with excellent food and beverages. Plays and concerts are performed in an intimate setting on the in-house stage (Internet: www.inoui.lu).

Well-known cinemas are Utopolis, Cine Utopia, Cine Cite and Cinematheque Municipal. Films are mostly shown in the original version with French and sometimes German subtitles. Larger cinemas such as the Utopolis (Internet: www.utopolis.lu) also show German versions (pay close attention to the program!).

Events and tips about Luxembourg’s nightlife can be found in the free city magazine Nightlife.lu (also on the Internet: www.nightlife.lu).

CLIMATE

Best travel time
