Lisbon -The City of Seven Hills

Posted on May 19, 2021May 13, 2021 by globalsciencellc

Lisbon has a lot to offer its travelers and many tourists are captivated by the city’s charm and versatility. The Portuguese capital has long attracted artists and writers from all corners of the world, but there is also a generous range of nightlife and beach hangouts. It is also said that the city, like Rome, is built over seven hills.

A modern meeting in a historic place

Some visitors do not get enough of historic buildings and architecture that tell of past times, at the same time many people are drawn to modern architecture, something that tells of what is happening now and a vision for the future.

But it is said that two opposites attract each other – which Lisbon can sign. After strolling around the labyrinth-like district of Alfama, the oldest area of Lisbon, and admiring ancient architecture, its opposite is not very far away, in the Parque das Nacoes. A former industrial area that before the World’s Fair in 1998 was completely rebuilt and is now filled with modern architecture and equivocal art, casinos and shopping centers, aquariums and greenery.

Shopping and entertainment

According to iamhigher, the same mix of old and new that architecture offers can be found on the shopping streets of Lisbon. Everything from international fashion houses to second-hand shops and flea markets and smaller shops with designs on a small scale. For those who want to shop with something that is special to Lisbon, port wine and tiles are two safe cards. If you are not in the renovation phase, tiles can still look good in many ways if you are just a little creative.

Nightlife wakes up late in the evening and does not sleep until early morning. There is something for everyone, everything from techno clubs to jazz clubs, trendy bars and bohemian bars – and a lot of live music. For those who want the chance to see a glimpse of a celebrity, the super club “Lux” is recommended. It is one of Lisbon’s biggest clubs and Hollywood actor John Malkovich is a co-owner of the club.

Beach slopes and a calmer atmosphere

In contrast to the big city pulse, with shopping and dancing well into the wee hours, it can be nice to just be there for a while. There are plenty of excursion destinations outside the city and beaches to relax on. Lisbon has very many beaches to choose from and which one suits you best depends a bit on what you are looking for. If it is a family trip with children, Praia da Conceição, Praia do Tamariz and Praia de Carcavelos are suitable options. If you want to surf, for example, Praia de Guincho, Costa da Caparica and Ericeira are good places to choose from. This is just a small part of all the beaches that Lisbon offers, there are many beaches that you can easily get to by public transport and even more if you want to go on a real day trip some distance from the city.

Lisbon – a destination for many different personalities

Because Lisbon has such a generous selection in everything from atmosphere, to shopping, entertainment and beaches – it is a suitable destination for many different types of personalities. Since everything is side by side, it is also a place to discover new tastes and interests, in everything from design, food and music. An excellent destination for those who want to be enriched and inspired by a vibrant culture.
